WordPress Releases Stats Plugin
A while back, I wrote on my addiction to stats on my personal blog. I’m kind of a nut about it. I want up-to-the-minute statistics on who is visiting my site, where from, total uniques, pageviews, incoming links, outgoing links, etc. I guess you could say that I’m a stat-a-holic. In fact, I use 3 separate stats programs to track my visitors.
I’ve never used wordpress.com before, so I’m not sure exactly what the commotion is behind WordPress releasing Automattic Stats. Evidently, users rave about how wonderful it is and have been complaining that the stats weren’t available for users who blog on their own host using the WordPress installation … so much so that the WordPress team has decided to make those stats available to users not using wordpress.com.
Obviously, I can’t ignore this. I will be installing this new plugin on some of my blogs, and I may even ask Brian to install it here on WPT. I want to see if this thing is any better than all the other stats programs available out there. If it is, I may add it to my arsenal of other stats programs
I’m a sucker, I know
I’ll give a review after I’ve had time to play with it for a little while.
UPDATE:
I just saw that Darren Rowse linked over to Muhammed Saleem’s review. Check it out.

I have to admit, I was disappointed with the plugin. It is very simple for anyone that has used anything else before, but the biggest disappointment was that the stats do not appear within your own WP admin, but reside on the WP.com site.
skarld,
I agree with you. Not having the stats in your own admin panel (and this requiring another logon) is just not a good idea at all. There has to be a better solution than that. I imagine that WP will probably wise up and do it that way for the next release.

I’ve been personally playing with pMetrics and have been very happy with it since I started about 2 weeks back. Ryan Caldwell over at Performancing has a lot of plans for expansion and of all the programs I’ve looked at thus far, it’s shown some of the most potential.
Check it out: http://pmetrics.performancing.com/
Keep up the good work guys!
