Getting Exposure Through Releasing Free WordPress Themes
As a WordPress blogger and designer, who released his first theme on February 14, 2007, I personally seen and experienced the amazing benefits of releasing free themes to the WordPress community.
Here are a couple of specific benefits I see for Intenet entrepreneurs, website owners, and bloggers:
1. Links
Just check out the inbound links I have according to Technorati. (And remember … I’ve just been releasing themes since February.)
Or check out Brian’s or Nathan’s links.
Just one theme can help you score dozens, if not hundreds of links on the web.
2. Affordable Advertising
I look at my free theme footer links as mini-billboard advertisements for me and my work. Like my fellow WP designers, I get numerous requests each day for new work.
For a blog site, this could help you get the word out about your site to a broader audience.
3. Traffic
Host a free release on your blog or website, and you will most likely see a nice bump in traffic initially … then some steady clicks as your theme gets distributed throughout the web. I get a steady number of referral traffic from the WordPress Theme Viewer and see new clicks from sites I’ve never heard of every day.
4. Networking
From a personal side, this is one of my most cherished experiences. The WordPress blog community is a rich network of people. I’ve made some great friendships through my work as a WordPress designer … and for most of these people I’ve never even shook their hand in person, or in fact, talked to them on the phone.
In the end, I think what I’m talking about here is … exposure for you and your site.
Envision your brand name and link on hundreds of site. And the potential readers, friends and advertisers you could potentially find through it.
